About this blog

We write articles mainly about visitor management, which helps you to know who is (or has been) in your facility. It is just part of an organization’s physical security processes that protect people and property within and around a building or campus.

Visitor sign-in books back up downed computer systems

by Andrew Jones

The self-duplicating Visitor Pass identifies and registers visitors in one easy step.

After recent news about hackers forcing a group of hospitals to shut down its computer systems, it’s worth noting that some organizations have a backup plan for their electronic visitor management protocol.

When a virus attacks or the power goes out, people have to find another way to keep doing their jobs. Doctors and nurses rely on paper records to service their patients, and security personnel break out sign-in books to badge and track visitors and vendors.

“Fortunately, the Visitor Badge Sign-In Book provides as close to an automated solution as there is without plugging it in,” says Brian Gallagher, President of Data Management, Inc., which produces Visitor Pass products. “When visitors sign in, they get an adhesive badge, while at the same time, a confidential record of their visit gets created.”

This product has also been used during off-hours, when the usual operator of a computerized VMS has gone home for the day.

What kind of backup plan do you have for your visitor management system? Please add your thoughts in the "Comments" section below.
